(OVERVIEW)
The Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University partnered with our team to reimagine its digital presence and visual identity ahead of a new website launch. The goal was to create a brand experience that felt more innovative, human-centered and future-focused while remaining unmistakably part of the Georgia State University family. Guided by the concept Purposeful Discovery, the redesign positioned AYS as a place where rigorous research, bold ideas and real-world impact come together to shape the next generation of public leaders.
(THE CHALLENGE)
The greatest challenge was elevating the Andrew Young School without separating it from the larger Georgia State University brand—a branded house, not a house of brands. The identity needed to establish AYS as a distinctive destination for prospective students while honoring the visual equity already built by GSU. That meant retaining recognizable brand elements such as GSU Blue and the university's established typography, while introducing thoughtful enhancements that gave AYS its own voice. The experience also needed to make public policy feel approachable, relevant and inspiring for a new generation of students.
(OUR APPROACH)
Our approach centered on balancing institutional consistency with meaningful differentiation. We preserved the core GSU visual system—including Oswald and Lato typography, the signature blue palette and familiar brand architecture—while extending it through purposeful design decisions. A new accent purple and restrained gradients introduced energy and discovery without competing with the parent brand. Dynamic grid systems became a visual metaphor for intentional progress, acting as the structural framework that unified photography, graphic elements and content while reinforcing the idea that meaningful change is thoughtfully built. To bring warmth and authenticity to the experience, we recommended an original photography direction focused on real students, faculty and staff actively collaborating, researching and engaging with their communities. Together, these elements transformed the website into a modern, people-centered expression of AYS that reflected its mission: Where Purpose Shapes Impact.
(RESULTS & IMPACT)
The redesigned website is scheduled to launch in July 2026, so performance metrics are not yet available. The work was strategically designed to strengthen the Andrew Young School's position within the Georgia State University ecosystem while increasing its appeal to prospective students. By modernizing the user experience, introducing a more distinctive yet cohesive visual identity and showcasing the people behind the school's impact, the redesign aims to create a stronger emotional connection with future students and reinforce AYS as a destination for innovative, purpose-driven leaders.
